New Two-Stroke Engines for China

November 19, 2009

MAN Diesel Company developed new models of two-stroke engines designated for Chinese market of vehicles for coastal and inland navigation. S35MC-C9 and S40MC-C9 engines are designed taking account of MAN Diesel’s experience gained in the manufacture of wide range of two-stroke low-speed mechanical drives.

Optimal parameters of vessels constructed for China and used for river or coastal freight are as follows: deadweight tonnage (dead weight) – 10000-20000 tons, propulsive system capacity – 5000-8000 KW, screw speed – about 140 rpm.

MC-C9 series engines are superior to all preceding models of the class. In order to lessen the installation weight, the engines are equipped with integral oil filter. S35MC-C9 and S40MC-C9 stroke-bore ratio is 4.4:1, ensuring propeller screw speed 142 and 136 rpm, correspondingly. Effective pressure produced by engines is 21 and 21.4 bar depending on the model.
