On October 20, 1696, the Council of Boyars gave an opinion “Sea ships to exist” by order of the Peter the Great. This is the birth date of the Russian fleet. Today, when the navy fleet has become an integral part of the army and the water transport plays an important role in the trade and passenger transportation, shipbuilding is still essential.
There are about 160 shipbuilding yards and plants in Russia. All of them are engaged in major sea and inland shipbuilding, and the number of ship repair enterprises performing scheduled and post-crash repair, docking, upgrade and other operations is much more.
Adopted federal programs for the development of the industry and its certain aspects hold out a hope of the recovery of the Russian shipbuilding. State-of-the-art repair and shipbuilding technologies are being designed and the most actual aspects are being developed.
