Ship repair enterprises are represented by workshops, plants, shipyards, ship-repair and mechanical and ship-repair and shipbuilding plants as well as by repair-operational fleet bases.
All of them, with certain reservations, perform both scheduled and non-scheduled repair of a ship hull, superstructures, marine boilers and mechanisms, propulsors and nozzles, pipelines, steering gears, and so on. Ship drydocking stands apart; this is procedure providing lifting of a ship and inspection of its underbody. Drydocking is a very expensive operation which sometimes costs more than repair. So, performance of some operations avoiding drydocking becomes one of the directions for the development of ship repair technologies.
Besides, ship upgrading is available at Russian ship repair plants including replacement of power plant and special equipment as well as ship room refitting. Sometimes, ship redesign is performed. Recently, not only domestic but even foreign ship owners have employed Russian ship repair enterprises.
