The first ports emerged synchronous with the beginning of the shipbuilding and navigation. At first, they emerged only in navigable bays, creeks, river mouths, on the shores protected by islands, etc. With raise in amount of cargo transported via water, the need for new ports construction appeared. Technological expansion permitted to construct ports where there is no natural protection from commotion and the water is not sufficiently deep. So, port facilities grew more complex and developed.
